The Time Has Come

As winter casts its enchanting spell, families and friends embark on a cherished tradition. That goes beyond the twinkling lights and tinsel; Christmas tree hunting, a time-honored practice. This transforms the quest for the perfect tree into a festive adventure. Join as I dive into the heartwarming traditions that accompany this seasonal quest, while creating memories that last a lifetime.

Choosing the Perfect Location

The journey begins with the selection of the perfect location for the annual Christmas tree hunt. Families often venture to local tree farms. Or like ours go to the national forests, or designated cutting areas. Each location offering a unique setting for this festive tradition. Some might choose the convenience of a farm, while others opt for the rustic charm of a snowy forest.

The Hunt for the Ideal Tree

With saw in hand and holiday spirit in the air, the hunt for the ideal tree commences. For our family this is a collective effort. With family members and friends exploring the rows of trees or wandering through the forest (dodging the occasional snow ball). We are all in search of the one that captures our hearts. Each tree is unique, and the joy lies in the discovery.

Cutting Down the Chosen Tree

A pivotal moment in the Christmas tree hunting tradition is the cutting down of the chosen tree. Armed with a saw provided by the tree farm or secured from home. Our designated tree cutter (usually Paw Paw and Daddy) takes on the task. This hands-on experience fosters a sense of accomplishment and adds a touch of adventure to the entire process.

Bringing Home the Treasure

Once the tree is felled, the next phase of the tradition begins. We typically enjoy lunch or snacks around a fire, and then start the journey home. Whether your tree strapped to the roof of a car, nestled in the bed of a pickup truck, or carefully loaded inside. Transporting the Christmas tree marks the triumphant return from the winter expedition. Laughter, excitement, and perhaps a cup of hot cocoa make the journey all the more festive.

Decorating with Love and Joy

Back home, the Christmas tree transforms from a forest beauty to a canvas awaiting festive adornment. This is a time for family to come together. Unpacking cherished ornaments, sharing stories, and carefully placing each bauble on the tree. The act of decorating becomes a celebration of love, joy, and the memories associated with each ornament. To be honest this years decorating of the tree was a bit on the chaotic side! With so many little hands wanting to help!! However, it did create for the best memories even if the homemade hot coco did get burnt!

Creating Timeless Traditions

The beauty of Christmas tree hunting lies not just in the tree itself, but in the traditions woven around the experience. It might be the family photo beside the chosen tree. A special ornament that represents the year, or the recounting of favorite memories. These traditions become as cherished as the tree that stands tall in the living room.

Sharing the Tradition with Generations

Christmas tree hunting is a tradition passed down through generations, creating a timeless link between family members. Grandparents who once trekked through the snow with their children. May now watch as the grandchildren eagerly carry on the tradition, fostering a sense of continuity and connection.

Here is another tradition we do as a family- which creates so many memories:
